Position: Development Technician Location: Ickleford, Hitchin Job type: Full Time, Permanent Hours: 37 hours per week Salary: £Competitive Benefits: 24 days holiday bank holidays - 5% EE & 5% ER Pension About the role: The Development Technician is responsible for assisting in product development work to meet customer briefs. This will include responsibility for internal tastings, customer presentations, lab application, supporting pilot plant trials and product improvement initiatives, ingredient management and kitchen integrity. Responsibilities: - Support the Development Technologists and Chefs in the development of new concepts to meet customer briefs. - Maintain close working relationships with Project Managers, Development Technologists, Development Chefs and other Technicians. - Make up finished products for presentations and take photos for brochures. - Capability to reliably follow technical details and direction accurately. - Support trials in the pilot plant as briefed by the Project Managers / Development Technologists. - Be responsible for ordering ingredients for development work and presentations, and replenishing kitchen supplies. - Assist the Development Chef in organising lunches, preparing presentation rooms and clearing away. - Cook up product for tastings and presentations, both internal and external, and present to a professional standard. - Responsible for providing training in BI culinary standards, standard product ranges and development kitchen protocol to R&D team as required. - Maintain high kitchen standards in cleanliness, food hygiene, storage and stock rotation. - Have competent culinary and technical ability. - Demonstrate understanding and awareness of project importance and time scales. - Have a good knowledge of ingredients and processes. - Provide cover for other technicians on an ad hoc basis. - Carry out any reasonable request from any member of the management team within the reasonable scope of the role. About you: - Interest in culinary food development. - Desire to be involved in all parts of the team. - Able to demonstrate ability to build effective working relationships. - Experience of dealing with face to face communication. - Demonstrate initiative. - Food related work experience. - Current, valid driving licence. - Able to travel to customers within the UK. - Exhibit strong team working skills. - Able to work in the pilot plant with a range of equipment. - Able to work with all flours and flavourings using appropriate PPE.
