GBR Recruitment are working closely with a leading food manufacturer recruiting for an experienced Technical Services Officer to deal with both internal departments & external customers, on all things technical specification related (specifications for packaging, raw materials, labelling & artwork) The Role: The Technical Services Officer is responsible for maintaining and developing all technical specifications (must have technical specification writing skills) and ensuring customer-information compliance for all existing and new products. You will be the key Technical contact for the customer base, developing strong working relationships. You will ensure appropriate systems, processes and documentation are in place to meet due diligence requirements, customer, regulatory and third party standards for safety, quality, legality and authenticity of specifications and consumer information. You will provide guidance and advice throughout the Company on matters relating to product specification and compliance. A critical role within the NPD and EPD processes, the Technical Services Officer will ensure suitable assessment are carried out regarding product formulation, raw material sourcing, customer policy compliance and Company standards. Additionally, you will continuously improve the Company?s specification and compliance systems and processes to ensure best practice and efficient use of resources. Responsibilities: Write, update & maintain live technical specifications, processing all updates following changes to products, processes, raw materials/suppliers approved plants, allergens and similar changes, using customer on-line systems and Microsoft Excel and Word. Annual/periodical live technical specification reviews, including customer nominated format changes. Communication of finished product specification updates due to significant changes. Liaising with internal and external customers on specification queries and product technical information requests, ensuring that information provided is legally compliant. Ensuring all customer product data sheets and specification requests are actioned within appropriate timescales and stated deadlines. Completion of new product set up forms ? New Line Forms, Data Sheets, PI Forms and other forms as required. Ensure product compliance with latest customer technical policies and any regulatory changes (NPD and EPD). Communicate the impact of change internally and externally. Complete customer SAQs and other questionnaires. Assess product formulations for products designed to make claims and advise on compliance requirements and naming/labelling. Establish product naming and labelling requirements and set up on labelling systems in-line with legislation and customer requirements. Maintain live finished product outer case label database - updates, reviews, format changes etc. Assist in creation of any pre-printed labels/packaging and artwork for legal compliance. Control CIMSCEE database (existing materials and new additions); where appropriate. Maintain Finished Product Verification Schedule (addition of new products, removal of delisted products). Review analytical results from factory trials against customer requirements, targets and claims. Assist in maintaining the schedule of customer specified analysis, e.g.Nutritional, DNA, Allergens etc. Review product QAS completed in the NPD/EPD process and communicate updates, reviews, format changes with customers. Manage and respond to internal and external enquiries on product standards. Carry out concept calculations for NPD/EPD products such as salt checks, ambient stability checks and others as required. Maintain Product Compliance Log for all NPD compliance checks such as salts, ambient status, new raw materials, and others as required. Carry out interim approval of new and alternative raw materials, packaging and suppliers within the NPD/EPD process.Advice purchasing teams of suitability. Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Vulnerability Assessment and Threat Assessment where hazards are identified. Assessment of recipe data once uploaded to internal ERP systems within the NPD/EPD process. Review replacement raw material opportunities against customer standards/product use compliance, impact on finished products (allergens, ingredient declarations etc. and advise on suitability. Manage communication of certificates of analysis from factory trials and launches to customers as per schedule. Carry out product compliance assessments through regular reviews and checks. Maintain traceability and version control of all work. Attend regular NPD/EPD meetings and contribute information and advice regarding compliance of products, raw materials and their suitability. Contribute in third party audits, customer visits and reviews and internal reviews providing product technical information and supporting documentation as appropriate. Other Responsibility : Cross-train and develop skills and awareness of Process Technologists role, providing support at busy times as required. General Technical Department duties and holiday/absence cover as and when required to fulfil business needs and the responsibilities of the team The role is an essential interface between other department and liaises with: Customers Suppliers Chefs Commercial Managers and Executives Process Development Team Purchasing Team Quality and Factory Technical Team Knowledge, Skills and Experience: Qualification relevant to the food industry, preferably degree or HND level or time served in a comparable role Technical specifications writing experience Experienced with art work & labelling (technical detail, legislation requirements, customer expectations) Demonstrable experience in technical writing and training in relevant skills/techniques appropriate to specification and product compliance. Detailed knowledge of a range of food manufacturing processes with the ability to demonstrate a good understanding of the key stages from concept to launch and beyond. An awareness of the BRC requirements and standards ? especially those associated with the role. Audit training and experience useful. HACCP level 3 (beneficial).
